Last week, I took the boys to Chincoteague, VA during the week of the pony swim. Does everyone remember Misty of Chincoteague? Basically, the wild ponies live on Assateague Island which is uninhabited and mostly a state park. Once a year, the saltwater cowboys round up the ponies from Assateague and have them swim across the channel to inhabited and oh so cute Chincoteague. We pitched our tent on Peg and Larry's campsite at Tom's Cove Campground. We hung out for a bit and then hopped in the truck and headed to Assateague where we saw the ponies being held in their corral. It was said that there are around 150 horses on the island and the cowboys were able to round up 85 to be auctioned off later in the week.
They were so pretty and seemed happy to be nibbling on the food.
The animal kingdom is always happy to share a kiss no matter what type of animal you are.
And look at the sweet foal. Their sweet little legs are just too cute.
Although he seems to have lost his mommy. Keep looking little guy.
My boys macking it up for the camera.
We walked down to the marshy water area and uh, oh, be careful where you step Eddie!
Something lurks amongst the holes.
It is a whole bunch of fiddler crabs! They are so cool...they have one claw that is very huge, but only on one side of their body. Overall, though, they are only about 2-3 inches big.
More pictures to follow in another post.
